Shadow Magic: Kumori is a thirteenth generational member of an ancient clan of wizards, witches, sorcerers, sorceresses and warlocks who dwell, practice and are masters of magic dealing with Shadow Lore. Thus, Kumori is an “S-ranked” witch, and was taught the secrets of shadow magic from an early age and mastered the skill shortly before she reached her twenties.
Spells concerning shadow magic that Kumori knows are:
Appearance:
Kumori is short of statue to the point where even most teenagers are taller than her, being only five-foot-two in height, she maintains an athletic physique but her metabolism levels aren’t high enough to make such a figure natural and Kumori finds that in order to keep her highly-fit frame she needs to exercise on a weekly basis and to avoid fattening foods. Kumori also possesses an hour-glass frame that always seems to catch the attention of surrounding men. As a child, Kumori’s complexion was moonlight white but mastering shadow magic had an effect upon her body and slowly caused her flawless skin to darken until pale chocolate brown. Blue-tinged black hair grows to Kumori’s knees and has only been cut a couple of times during her life, she rarely ever allows her hair to remain unbound and often styles it into a high-ponytail at the back of her head, a few strands are left to frame her feminine youthful face. Large eyes possessing jet-black irises that blend in with her slit-like pupils, a slightly overlarge forehead and a small plump mouth with canine-like teeth, make up Kumori’s facial features. The most alarming and unusual features of Kumori’s appearance are a pair of large black cat-like ears that are visible on either side of her head and a long slender black tail that protrudes out from her tail-bone, announcing Kumori as a neko and gaining her the titles of “Black Cat” and “Neko Tailor”.
Kumori’s usual style of clothing consists of casual comfortable items such as turtle-necked sweaters, hipster tracksuits, loose t-shirts featuring a witty slogan or the logo of some underground band printed across her large breasts, baggy torn jeans or long flowing skirts. However, Kumori has been known to dress up into more formal appealing clothing on special occasions and looks breath-taking in a bathing suit.
Personality:
Due to being a neko witch (which is pretty rare, even within the magical lifestyle) Kumori was forced to endure whispers, rude and often mean comments and blatant staring directed at her unusual appearance throughout her life, however Kumori was determined not to allow such things to affect her. In fact, she is rather proud of her cat-like ears and tail and makes no effort to disguise them with her magic, often deliberately drawing attention to them and insists that she’s much more desirable to men than other women are due to “every man harbouring a secret neko fetish, whether they admit to it or not”. She also has a habit of drawing attention to her large breasts too and is somewhat of a pervert, finding enjoyment in teasing others or causing discomfort by flaunting her body with little care for self-worth. Not surprisingly, Kumori shows a fondness towards felines and many can be found around her shop, eager for the meals that Kumori presents to them on a daily basis and which show loyalty towards her, as if they were her pets. Kumori appears to have the skill of communicating and understanding cats and occasionally uses them for her benefit, such as spying on other wizards or witches for her.
She possesses a high level of intelligence to the point where some might consider her to be a genius, solving complex puzzles or swiftly constructing strategies or learning detailed spells or secrets concerning magic prove to be no problem for the neko witch, in fact Kumori can pretty much learn and adapt to anything should she desire to. Like cats, Kumori has a lazy trait and finds straining physical labour to be tiresome and would much rather sit back and relax whilst reading a book, creating or repair clothing or catching a short nap, and people who don’t relax or take life too seriously tend to annoy her. However, despite her laid-back attitude Kumori has a strong desire not to lose her “beautiful body” and forces herself to partake in activities such as gymnastics, track, boxing and yoga despite how much she dislikes working up a sweat. Due to being laid-back it isn’t easy to anger or upset Kumori, however if someone should manage it disaster quickly unfolds as Kumori tends to release her emotions in a violent nature and finds it hard to forgive or let go of grudges, staying true to the saying that “a cat’s grudge lasts for a hundred years.”
In her childhood, Kumori developed an interest in sowing, knitting, hemming and just about everything there was to do with fashion and its design and her interest did not fade away as her family had hoped for. Adding to their disappointment was that Kumori’s interest in fashion surpassed that of her interest in magic and her ambition to become a great sorceress as was her family’s tradition, and whilst they believed Kumori should have been pursuing the path of a sorceress she instead chose to pursue the career of a seamstress. As such, it wasn’t surprising that Kumori should have a talent for designing clothing and, though she has no magic of the alchemy nature, she learnt how to infuse her shadow magic into some of her designs, creating clothing of a magical nature. Her “magical” fashion is well-known however whilst Kumori doesn’t sell them for cheap she has been known to exchange her creations for favours and isn’t one to give anything away for free.
Considered to be practically royalty in the magical society, due to the ancient family of wizards and witches who specialises in the rare and darkly mysterious Shadow Magic which she hails from, Kumori is well known of and respected and sometimes even feared. But despite this, she prefers to get involved as rarely as possible with magical affairs, having little trust in her fellow sorcerer and disliking how the magical world functions.
Despite her fame, very few actually know that Kumori’s actual name is “Tsukiyo” as she has the habit of introducing herself by her family name, preferring to be called by it instead. Kumori also enjoys having more than one alias and often makes a habit of encouraging people to call her by them.
History:
The Kumori family is a clan-based family consisting of witches, wizards, sorcerers, sorceresses and warlocks who all possess and are masters of the rare and dangerous form of magical lore known as “Shadow Magic”, a form of magic that very few have an understanding of. The Kumori family is one of the oldest branches of wizardry families in history, having existed as far back as the days of Ancient Greece and who still exist quite comfortably in the twenty-first century. This gives them the status of royalty in the eyes of other wizards and witches and, it is rumoured, that the Kumori were the first to learn and use Shadow Lore and thus its members can never be surpassed by another knowledgeable in Shadow Magic. From the very beginning the Kumori have been few in number, only ever breeding with another shadow magic user and then, once giving birth to their first child, they use their shadow magic to make their bodies infertile. This is done not only to keep their bloodline restricted to “S-ranked” wizards and witches but also to successfully horde their family’s important secrets and power to themselves.
On the night of All Hollow’s Eve, directly upon midnight, Tsukiyo Kumori was born. She was a healthy wailing baby who bore the distinct appearance of her family (dark hair, jet-black pupils and moonlight pale skin) with the exception of also possessing a slender feline tail protruding from her tailbone and two dark cat ears upon either side of her head – traits taken from her mother’s bloodline. At first there was concern about Kumori’s feline appearance as it isolated her from other children and people who bore Kumori ill-will due to her higher level of difference, and her parents questioned whether or not they should use their power to disguise her ears and tail or even completely remove them. But when it became clear that Kumori was quite happy with her feline appearance her parents let her be. Following through with their family’s tradition, Kumori began her training in the lore of shadow magic during the early years of her childhood and her parents were more than pleased that even from that early age Kumori clearly had a talent for magic. They were less than pleased when, upon the time when their daughter reached twelve-years-of-age, she announced that instead of focussing all her time at being a sorceress she would become a fashion designer instead and nothing that her parents said or did seemed to change Kumori’s mind, though they tried. At the age of fourteen Kumori was designing her own range of attire that she sold to the general public and even to fashion shows, earning a name for herself in the fashion industry and a year later Kumori began to experiment with her growing magic, infusing her shadow magic into her designs and creating items that were highly sought after by the magical public. Belts that caused invisibility, gloves that gave one strength that surpassed a human’s ordinary strength by five times, and even hats that caused amnesia. All were creations of Kumori’s work.
Kumori did more for magical society than just creating useful attire for them at this stage of her life. A few wizards and witches of decent to considerable power had chosen to break free from the secrecy that they kind prized, desiring to thrive in the spotlight and awaken human eyes to the true magic of the world. They threatened the balance of magical lore and were ordered to be taken out, and Kumori accepted such a challenge. Using her shadow magic and a few of her own creations, she tracked these witches and wizards down and used her magic to restrain them, succeeding in the end with difficulty and injuries and earning herself the title of “Black Cat.” Unfortunately, Kumori found little satisfaction for the results of her actions when the ones who she had been brought to justice were denied their human rights by the magical society and were often put to death without hesitation, often punished severally before hand. This disgusted Kumori and caused her to see the magical society in a dark light. By the age of eighteen, Kumori left the limelight of the fashion industry and the attention of the magical society and moved to Tokyo Japan to set up and run a small shop, which she named “the Neko Tailor” after herself. The idea was for Kumori to return to designing and selling her own regular attire, magic-free, and repair damaged clothing for a set price, making her living that way but bad habits always die hard and Kumori found that she couldn’t stop creating the odd item of clothing and infusing it with her own magic. She kept these items a secret though, not wanting the magical society to discover her actions and perhaps force her to serve them once more.
Currently Kumori continues to work in her successful shop, designing and repairing clothing for a set fee, and is aware of the high school hidden within the city nearby but chooses to have as little as possible to do with it as she can.

- Shadow Travel: By physically touching a source of shadow, Kumori is able to use the darkness as a means of travel to wherever she desires, though the further away her destination is the more energy she consumes. She does this by allowing her body to be ensnared and drawn down into the darkness, transporting her to the plane of shadows, which she can then use to locate and exit another selected shadow from the plane of shadows to wherever she desires to be.
- Shade Summoning: By concentrating her will, and as long as she is near a source of darkness, Kumori can summon shades to obey her will. Shades are human-shaped entities of pure darkness, baring no distinctive features, that dwell within the plane of shadows and whilst they are incapable of human speech, they possess physical strength and agility that far surpasses that of humans. They will also obey Kumori without question.
- Shadow Manipulation: By enforcing her will upon a source of darkness, Kumori can manipulate it into doing whatever she wants, from protecting herself from an incoming magical spell to ensnaring a foe in thick black shadow rope. The more easy tasks in manipulating shadows allow Kumori to do so with just her gaze, however the more complex tasks (e.g. strangling a foe with their own shadow) requires physical gestures on Kumori’s behalf, such as the pointing of her fingers.
- Shadow Distortion: By placing the palm of her hand against a part of her body or someone else’s, Kumori can gather wisps of shadow beneath her hand and use those wisps to temporarily alter certain physical features (e.g. the colour and style of one’s hair). This spell allows Kumori to disguise herself or others when the need for secrecy or deception arises; however the spell weakens and soon disperses when in contact with strong sources of light. It is partially an illusion-based spell.
- Shadow Suppression: Like Shadow Distortion, Shadow Suppression involves the concept of illusions as it builds upon the darkness that exists within a person and uses that darkness to interfere with signals reaching and leaving the human brain, affecting the senses. It causes the person to believe that they are blind, deaf and mute though doesn’t affect the ability to smell or touch. This spell is more defensive than offensive.
